We'll meet this Sunday, June 9, at 12:10, by the stage in Wells Hall, and move on from there. The session will be no more than an hour. See you there! -- Mo. Mary
OUTREACH -- 2013 RELAY FOR LIFE -- JUNE 14 & 15
Please join Team Godspeed, comprised of members of several Tacoma-area Episcopal churches, and participate in the 2013 American Cancer Societies “Relay for Life” event at the Mt. Tahoma High School Stadium. The event starts with the survivors walk at 6:00 pm on Friday evening and ends 24 hours later at 6:00 pm Saturday. Look for Team Godspeed ‘s booth in its usual location at the south end of the track oval. Stop by and walk a few laps or just to say “hello” to the folks manning the booth.
Of course the main purpose of Relay for Life is to raise money for cancer cure research. You can donate via www.tacomarelay.org , ideally looking up Team Godspeed when designating your gift. Or you can donate via check. There will be a sign-up sheet in the narthex in the coming Sundays for that purpose. Whatever you can give will help - it all adds up! Relay For Life®, which was started in Tacoma over 25 years ago by a local doctor, is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people worldwide to:
* CELEBRATE the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
* REMEMBER loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
* FIGHT BACK. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.
Again this year there will be a place for you to write the names of people in your life that are survivors or lost their life to cancer. These names will be at the Team Godspeed booth during the relay. Contact Len Johnson by phone or by email if you have questions about Team Godspeed and Relay for Life

PHOENIX HOUSING COMING TO CCP SOON
Our Phoenix Housing guests will be coming June 22-29. We are looking for volunteers to provide dinner each of those evenings, or provide activities for the kids we might have, or to spend the night. We also need help setting up for them and taking things down after their stay. If you are willing to help with any of those activities, please sign up on the sheets in the Narthex!
PAINT THE SAINTS COMING IN AUGUST
Mark your calendar for August 5 - 9, when a group of Christ Church people will gather at the L'Arche Center for a week of painting. L'Arche is dedicated to working with people with disabilities in a most loving and caring way. There are lots of buildings on the grounds and there are always painting needs. It may be inside, it may be outside. Great challenges! Watch for specifics as the months move on. If you can give a day or a half day or up to the five days, mark your calendar. Painting is generally from 9-3.
MUSIC AT CHRIST CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S MUSIC - June 9
Our Choir sings For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter, English choral director and composer known for his lilting themes and syncopated rhythms, delightfully evident in this anthem. For the Offertory we present a popular Kenyan Christian song in an exuberant arrangement by Shawn Kirchner. Sung in Swahili, it is a joyful celebration of hope, Wana Baraka! You’ll find yourself transported by the African sounds, a reminder of the global nature of Christianity in this Pentecost Season. “They have blessings, those who pray. Alleluia!” Choir member and professional musician Frank Briscoe adds his stirring trumpet sounds to our final hymn and postlude for a joyful conclusion to our worship.
GRATITUDE FOR OUR CHOIR
June 9 marks the end of the season for the Christ Church Choir. Many thanks to our singers for their faithful service throughout the year! Their music has greatly enriched our worship life and we appreciate their consistent dedication and energy which has enhanced our liturgical year with splendor and grace.
New singers will be warmly welcomed in the fall; rehearsals begin Thursday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in joining should contact the directors for more information. While the choir takes a break for the summer, our vibrant worship life continue to flourish with the music of the Great Congregational Choir, organ and soloists. Plan now to participate and bring your friends! Gloria in Excelsis Deo!
SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES for anyone who wishes to sing:
August 18, Women’s Choir, with rehearsal on Thursday Aug. 15, 7:30 p.m.
August 25, Men’s Choir, with rehearsal on Thursday Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m.
THIRD FRIDAYS AT NOON – Friday, June 21, 12:10 p.m.
We are delighted to welcome back Dr. Dana Robinson, Associate Professor of Organ at the University of Illinois, playing music by Buxtehude, Bach and Beethoven on the Brombaugh organ and Hamburg Steinway grand piano. Professor Robinson has a distinguished career as a performer and teacher, and has recorded a CD of J. S. Bach's Orgelbüchlein, on our Christ Church Brombaugh organ.
