Children and youth are a vital part of the Christ Church community, and we seek to provide activities, ministries, and events for them. We also encourage youth from grade 3 and up to participate in worship as acolytes.
The nursery and Sunday School classrooms are staffed by highly qualified child workers, including teachers and nurses. All nursery and Sunday School workers are subjected to rigorous national background checks, and receive the Diocesan Safeguarding God’s Children Training for the prevention of child abuse.
Sunday School for all ages is held on Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Children learn about faith, scripture, sacraments, and Episcopal traditions; special attention is given to relating faith to issues facing children and youth today. Children gather at the entrance to the Church and process to their classrooms with their teachers.
Nursery care is provided from 9:45-12:00 in our secure nursery area in Wells Hall. Parents may drop their children off and then join the worship liturgy, and pick up their children in time for coffee hour.
In the Christ Church Nursery,
We teach who God is within a loving, nurturing and positive environment;
Children learn through music, art, nature, and imaginative play; and
Differences are embraced and celebrated.
The nursery at Christ Church is a safe and joyful place for children 0-3 years old. Each day there is a set routine that includes music, Bible stories, arts and crafts, and imaginative play. The children also learn about God’s creations through exploring the outdoors, decorating the nursery according to seasons, sensory play, and enjoying one another’s differences. Children are also introduced to basic social skills, hygiene and toileting, and communication including American Sign Language.
We are celebrating the spring in the nursery, the season of transformation and rebirth. For the month of May the children in the nursery are learning about caterpillars and their miraculous journey to butterfly that gives a frame of reference for the death and resurrection of
Christ. We will be reading the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. Come by and look at our Garden Wall!
